Following an attack on the Agojeju-Odo hamlet in Kogi State’s Omala Local Government Area by suspected herders, four people have died.

On Wednesday, February 7, 2024, Umar Yahaya, a member of the Kogi State House of Assembly, confirmed the killing during a press briefing after providing a report on the attack to Kogi State Governor Usman Ahmed Ododo.

The politician, who is a representative for the Omala seat in the assembly, stated that on January 30, 2024, at approximately 3:30 pm, more than 100 gunmen broke into the hamlet to begin the attack.

He claimed that the militants intermittently fired shots after entering the neighborhood through the town’s eastern section, which bordered the states of Nasarawa and Benue.

The legislator, however, made a plea to the state government to persuade Benthrand Onuoha, the Kogi Commissioner of Police, and other heads of security agencies to send officers to the affected regions to uphold peace and order.

A gifted musician named Dan Shaibu was among those slain in the meantime.
